Book 9

They say write what you know... well I know softball. Most of my life was spent between those chalk lines with bruises documenting dedication to getting an out. I started writing this story but pushed it aside for Life in the Moments aka Book 8. Now, I'm diving back into Shelby and Winston's journey.
Shelby has the confidence to face the top hitting teams in the nation. She doesn't sweat the pitch count or her ERA. There's only one thing that shakes her rock-steady confidence and that's her British History class. Enter Winston Booth. His mission is to help Shelby bring up her grade so she can achieve her dream of playing in Oklahoma City at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
I can't wait to see how their story plays out.

Little Known Facts

Little known facts about Life in the Moments.
*This book went through several name changes. I just wasn't happy with any of them until I wrote the prologue.
*It was inspired by my nephew's fight with MPS I as well as my aunt's fight with breast cancer.
*I set aside the book I was writing because all I could picture was Amelia and Beau's journey.
*I cried as I typed certain scenes. I even cried again when I edited them.
*A few scenes were inspired by songs.
*This was the first story of mine where I used flashbacks to tell Amelia and Beau's journey to falling in love.
*I kept the fact that Amelia was fighting breast cancer until it was time to release the blurb. I didn't want anyone to know until I was almost finished with the book.
*The idea of the book was inspired by a story I heard on the radio. The man's wife was sick and he's loved her at every stage of their lives. He gives her the list when she asked how he could love her.
*I originally didn't have the last sentence in the book. When I thought about it, the story needed that last line.
I hope everyone gets a chance to read it. Also, I am working on my next book, which I hope to get published early next year.

Life in the Moments is Live!

Have you downloaded Life in the Moments? It is live on all platforms. Here is one of my favorite scenes of Beau. Honestly this is the one scene, I knew would be in the book before I ever typed word. I saw this scene for months and couldn't wait until I got to this part. Don't forget to download your copy today.
Beau stepped into the hall and watched as Amelia disappeared behind two double doors. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He dropped to his knees and said a quick prayer.
He couldn’t lose Amelia.
Not now.
“Are you okay, sir?”
He opened his eyes and looked up at one of the nurses.
“I’m fine,” Beau said as he stood up. “Just saying a quick prayer.”
She smiled. “You’re not the first person to sink to their knees in prayer in this hall. Hospitals always seemed to drive people to their knees whether in prayer or anguish. Remember the shattered pieces won’t fit back together perfectly, but they’ll shine bright with the new day.”

Release

In a few hours Life in the Moments will be live! Here is a small scene between Amelia and Beau. This is one of the flashback scenes. Don't forget to order your copy today.

“You look happy,” he said, shifting on his feet.
“I am,” she said, glancing at her paintings.
“You know I always thought your paintings were amazing in high school, but these are on a whole different level. It’s as if you’re in legendary mode or something,” he said.
“Legendary mode?” she asked, looking back at him.
“Yeah, the level you only reach when you know your abilities and push the boundaries,” he said, smiling.
She smiled as she uncrossed her arms. “Why did you really transfer?”
“Maybe one day I’ll tell you,” he said, stepping closer.
“Tell her what?” Sebastian asked.
Amelia looked over Beau’s shoulder at her boyfriend. She wondered what he was doing since he should be at his exhibit. Normally, he didn’t leave during a showing.
“Tell her why I transferred from UCLA,” Beau said, turning to face Sebastian. “I’m Beau Jennings.”
Amelia watched as Beau held out his hand for Sebastian.
“Yeah, I know,” Sebastian said, ignoring Beau’s hand.
“You know?” she asked. “How do you know who Beau is?”
“I do work on the paper,” Sebastian stated. “Babe, you know Seth hates me and assigned the Sports Section to me.”
“Uh, no, I didn’t know he assigned you Sports,” she said, shaking her head.
They never discussed his assignments for the paper.
“What? My name is in the Sports Section every week. How did you miss it?” Sebastian asked.
“Amelia doesn’t read the newspaper,” Beau said, dropping his hand.
“Since when? Amelia, I thought you read my articles,” Sebastian said, shoving his hands in his pockets.
“Sebastian, I told you I didn’t read them,” she said before glancing at Beau. “I don’t want to read depressing news all the time.”
“I don’t think so. I’m sure I would’ve remembered,” Sebastian said angrily. “And how does Beau Jennings know you don’t read the newspaper?”
“We went to high school together,” she said with a shrug.
“High school?” Sebastian asked. “Is that all?”
“Sebastian now is not the time,” she said as she glanced at some people walking closer to her exhibit. “You need to go back to your exhibit.”
“My art speaks for itself,” Sebastian said, shifting closer to her.
She sighed as she shook her head. “I don’t need the both of you here. Go.”
“We’ll discuss this later,” Sebastian said as he kissed her cheek before walking away.
She sighed as she looked at Beau. Several people walked into her exhibit before she could send Beau away as well. Two hours later, she finally got a free moment. She saw Beau was still standing where she left him.
Had he been standing there the whole time?
“Beau, you stayed this whole time?” she asked, glancing at her watch. “It’s been two hours.”
“I didn’t have anything better to do,” he said with a shrug. “And I always loved watching you talk about your paintings.”
She smiled. With his one comment, she remembered all the times Beau stepped aside and let her have the spotlight during her exhibits. Even if someone asked him about football, he brushed it to the side and told them she was the star of the night.
“It was a great show tonight.”
“Better than yours in high school?” he asked, shifting closer to her.
“In some ways, but not in others,” she said, looking at her paintings. “I miss our parents showing up.”
“My parents wanted to come, but I asked them not to,” he said. “Dad wants another painting.”
“Your parents have more of my paintings than I do,” she said, with a laugh. “I do have one he’ll want.”
She moved away from him towards the painting she knew his dad would love. Even though she hadn’t seen Beau play in two years, she couldn’t resist painting him on the field. It was the key piece of her exhibit. If Sebastian actually looked at her paintings, he would’ve known she and Beau knew each other.
She took the painting off the wall and walked back over to Beau.
“This one is on me,” she said, handing Beau the painting.
“Wow,” he whispered. “Dad will love this.”
“Thank you,” she said, looking down at the painting in his hands.
It was of Beau standing on the football. He was in jeans and a t-shirt standing in the end zone looking up at the goal. The letters UCLA were below his feet, painted on the grass. She’d never seen Beau play on the field, but she’d seen enough photos of the field she could see him there.

Blurb

I got back my book from the editor! Since I'll be diving into edits, I decided to share the blurb for Life in the Moments. As for when it will be available, mark your calendars October 16!

Life is a collection of moments. Most are wonderful, many are good, some are bad, and a few are terrible. They can blend to form a life or shatter one into pieces. As the high school football coach and art teacher, Beau and Amelia have shared many moments to get to this point. Their life i...sn’t easy, but they have overcome every obstacle that has been in their way.

Until now.

One terrible moment shifts their world off its axis. The moment Amelia discovers she has cancer. Not all cancers are pink, but Amelia’s was. As they process the news, they are reminded of their past through a series of moments. Now they’re in a fight against time facing an invisible foe to save not only Amelia, but their life together. With each failed treatment, Amelia slips further away. It’s up to Beau and the rest of the family to help Amelia fight.

Are their moments enough to save Amelia? Or will this fight blur those moments, and leave everyone shattered in the wake?

Anniversary

5 years ago today, I published my first book, Cursed Soldier! It was a scary, but exciting experience. I can't believe the journey. I never dreamed I would publish 1 book, let alone 7.

Thank you for the journey and as promised here is my surprise, the title to book 8: Life in the Moments. I hope to publish it in October.

Legend

We're getting closer and closer to the 5th anniversary of Cursed Soldier. Here is another small scene from it. This was the first time Ben learns there's a legend surrounding the 'cursed soldier'.
"What legend? I don't think I've heard any legend about a witch during the battle." He said taking a drink of his water. He really needed this book now, and wondered if there was some way that he could convince her to let him read the book tonight.
"Oh just that she cursed the soldier that let her son die. Apparently, the soldier had watched her son die but had managed to kill the Yankee that murdered her son. The Confederate soldier was protecting a General, according the legend, but the General was never named so I don't know if that parts true. The witch claimed the soldier thought his life was better than her son's. She then cursed him to live forever." She stated finishing her food.
"Really, I don't think I have ever heard that legend." He said before finishing his food even though he wasn't hungry now. All he wanted to do was demand she take him to her house and let him read that book.
"Oh, it's not the first time that I have heard it. There is a book in the museum about the legends surrounding the battle, and it's in there too." She mentioned.
"I think I will have to get a copy of that book." He said hoping that she would take the hint and let him borrow it. He would bring it back after he had found his answer.
"Well, the one in the museum is the only copy known to exist as far as I know but you can borrow mine that I’m reading. I should be done with it this weekend since I have the house to myself." She said with a smile as the waiter bought them their check. They both reached for it at the same time.
