Flashback Friday

"Maggie, do you have a black eye?" Cody asked, looking closer. "Who hit you?"
"Nobody hit me," Maggie answered, looking at Matt.
"Matt?" Cody asked, getting angry.
The little red-haired girl may not be his daughter, but she was close enough that he was concerned. Five months ago, he was the one to find her in the massacre of the elementary school shooting. He was in a panic when he couldn't find her among the living. After several minutes, he finally heard her. Those images and the feeling of panic still caused him nightmares.
"Cody, calm down," Matt said. "No one hit her. Maggie, why don't you tell Uncle Cody why you have a black eye."
"Okay," Maggie said putting her hands in her lap and looking down at the table. "I was practicing with my bow and arrows in the backyard and one didn't go the right way."
"Oh, baby," Cody murmured. "I'll have to teach you how to fire an arrow."
"No," Matt groaned. "I don't need to spend money on bow arrows. I also don't need any more bruises because of your bow."
"Don't listen to your daddy," Cody whispered. "I have plenty of arrows."
"Maggie, princesses do not use a bow," Matt commented.
"Says who?" April asked as she refilled their glasses and set his and Maggie's food on the table.

I couldn't resist sharing this scene from Falling for Cody. If you haven't had a chance to read Cody and April's story, you can purchase it on most platforms as well as hardback and paperback. Happy Friday!
